Design A Cohesive Home

The best completed home designs are the ones that manage to coordinate design schemes beautifully from room to room.  That's what we think.  What do we mean by this?  Well, think of it as a story; a home should begin telling one from the entrance through to the bathrooms.  Pieces shouldn't necessarily match, but there should be a subtle or indirect similarity from one space to the next so that the home appears balanced and cohesive.  Cohesiveness is so important because it will help make the home feel united, rather than choppy, as if one room belonged to another house.

How Do You Want Your House To FEEL?

I'm SO EXCITED to be writing my first blog post.  I knew immediately what I wanted to write about as it's the one aspect most designers' miss when designing a dream home.  For over 20 years, I knew the style my client wanted and the correlating rugs, decor, lamps and furniture to make it a designer's home.  I did this over and over again and pretty soon the homes lost that je ne sais quoi for me.  Now mind you, I had worked for MONTHS on these homes, but I just had this feeling that there had to be MORE.  I sat down in my own cozy home, filled with plants and color and really thought about it.  Here's what I came up with and here's the most important thing I'll ever teach you!  Your home is your work of art.  It's your sanctuary, your place to rest, feel comfort and feel refreshed.  This is the place where we should feel joy and happiness, not stifled to an art museum full of collectible pieces.
